Leon Arpee (1877-1947) was an Armenian historian and theologian. Born in Bardizag, Turkey, he graduated from Auburn Theological Seminary in 1900. He was ordained by the Presbytery of Willamette and was pastor of Presbyterian churches in Richwood, Nelsonville, Delaware, and Upper Sandusky, in Ohio, and Marquette Park Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
He published The Armenian Awakening in 1909 and The Atonement in Experience in 1932. In 1946 he published A History of Armenian Christianity from the Beginning to Our Own Time and A Century of Armenian Protestantism.
He died in Athens, Ohio, in 1947.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of typed and bound works by Leon Arpee: the ten-volume "My Treasury of Quotations" with index and three-volume "The Atonement: Excerpts Alphabetically Arranged with Occasional Original Notes, Select Scriptures, and Bibliography."

It is not known when the collection was given to the Seminary. In the Foreword to his "Treasury," Arpee writes, "It is intended that when my brother, Edward, so chooses, these volumes shall find a permanent home in the Library of the Princeton Theological Seminary, at Princeton, New Jersey, or some other Theological Library to which they will be acceptable, for the use of Faculty Members. Athens, Ohio, November 23, 1939." Edward Arpee attended Princeton Theological Seminary 1924-1927. The collection was processed by Douglas F. Denne, Winter 1996. The finding aid was written 2015.
There are no special restrictions to access of this collection. It may be examined by library patrons under the normal rules and conditions of Special Collections.
