Biographical Information

Canon John Bertram Phillips (1906-1982) was an Anglican priest and a popular author. He wrote several well regarded books and was the translator of one of the most widely used versions of the Bible ever produced.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of more than 50 personal letters to and from J.B. Phillips and from Dr. Walter James, from 1953 to 1980. Some letters contain small water colors painted by Mr. Phillips. It also includes some additional miscellanea.

Processing Information

This collection of papers was donated to the Seminary Libraries in April of 1994 by the Rev. Dr. Walter James. The collection was organized and the original finding aid was written in June of 1996, by Raymond D. Cannata, under the direction of William O. Harris, Archivist. The finding aid was edited by Sarah Seraphin and Daved Anthony Schmidt in June of 2009.
