The Reverend Doctor George Musgrave Giger (1822-1865) was a graduate of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1841 and of Princeton Seminary in 1844. He served on the faculty of the College from 1844 until his death in 1865, at the age of 43. He began his teaching career as a tutor in mathematics, but soon became a Professor of Latin Language and Literature and Clerk of the faculty. Dr. Giger was ordained as an evangelist by the Presbytery of New Brunswick in 1860, and preached frequently. He is remembered today in theological circles for his translation of the three volume Institutes of Elentic Theology of the 17th century Genevan theologian Francois Turrettini (Francis Turretin).
