Scope and Content

This collection consists of the journals and notebooks of Edward John Hamilton, a Princeton Seminary alumnus who was born in Ireland and served as chaplain in the Union Army from 1863 to 1865. The collection includes lectures by Charles Hodge, William Henry Green and Alexander McGill.

- Notebook and titled "Sketches of Conferences and Sermons," a lecture by Charles Hodge. It contains lectures by other professors (Alexander, Green, McGill) as well. dated September 8, 1856
- Journal titled "Dr. A. Alexander on Church History". dated February 1857
- Journal that begins with "Hodge on Ephesians,". Following is a section on the book of Hebrews, Professor Green's introductory lectures on the Old Testament, Job, and Old Testament Prophecies. Upside down, at the other end of the book is "Notes on Conferences." dated October 1853
- Notebook titled "Answers to Hodge's questions on theology," containing lectures from Charles Hodge's class.
- Journal with a variety of topics, titled "Notes on Theology."
